We mainly see these two low alloy steel grade from two factors (chemical composition and mechanical property).

For main thickness (6-100mm),S355JR tensile strength within 470-630Mpa,yield strength above 345Mpa.A572Gr.50 tensile strength min.450Mpa,yield strength above 345Mpa.This can be see as the same.

For five main chemical elements (C,Si,Mn,P,S),the heat analysis limited is also similar for S355JR and A572Gr50.(See the below tables)

So when you have stock for ASTM A572Gr50 steel plates and got your final contractor’s agreement,It is a choice for you using A572Gr50 to replacement of S355JR steel.
