Global crude steel output hits a high record and 4 to 5 million tons of excess capacity

According to the China Social Sciences Online reports, statistics released by the World Steel Association, the global crude steel production in 2012 was 1.5 billion 47.8 million tons, a year-on-year growth of 1.2%, hitting a high record for three consecutive years. However, by demand downturn influence in Europe and South America, in addition to the Lehman crisis led to production was lower than last year's 08, 09 years, the growth rate was the lowest level since 2001. China-centric rapid growth in steel demand started to slow down.


China's crude steel production was 700 million 16.5 million tons, accounting for 46% of global output. However, the growth rate was only 3.1%, less than 5% for the first time after a lapse of four years. Japan's crude steel production decreased by 0.3%, still ranked No. 2. Equipment operating rate of crude steel production in 2012, an average of 78.8%, 1.9 percentage points lower than the previous year.
