In ASTM specification,there are many steel grades can be used for various boilers and pressure vessels in elevated temperature or moderate and low temperature service.steel plate A537 Class 1 and steel plate A516 Grade 70 are both common used for boilers and pressure vessels.
A537 Class 1 steel plate shall be done Normalized heat treatment for all thickness,A516 Grade 70 steel plate only done Normalized heat treatment for thickness above 40mm.of course,ultrasonic examination must be done for all pressure vessel steel materials,ASTM A578 level B is most common chosed for steel plate A537 Class 1 and steel plate A516 Grade 70.
